Don't Take It Lightly

A co-operative puzzle game. Play as Sam and Edgar and use your individual abilities to navigate through the rooms and solve a series of light-based puzzles in order to find the source of the curse to set Edgar free from the curse that’s bound him to this place. The game mixes cute Animal Crossing like graphics with a haunting atmosphere.


Level Designer

This was a 4 week project where I worked as the level designer. The goal when I designed the levels was to have the players progress from each level naturally. Introducing new mechanics and difficulties with each level for each player. The goal was not to have the player walk into the level wondering what to do, only how to do it. I wanted to encourage the players to explore the rooms and find interactable objects and use them to complete the puzzles.

  • Level 1 - Is a small room introducing the two core mechanics of the game. Possession and manipulation of light sources for the ghost player. And dragging/pushing objects for the human player.

  • Level 2 - In this level two new mechanics were introduced and the puzzle was more complex. The ghost can now possess statues that were placed to block the light beam and the human player is introduced to a mechanic to rotate the mirror to find the correct angle.

  • Level 3 - In this level the player needs to complete two puzzles, using the mechanics they have learned in the previous levels but using two light sources in order to break the seal and unlock the door. Making the player figure out how they are going to use the objects in the room to hit the door with the light beam simultaneously.
